Alpha Canada Course
Alpha has become a worldwide phenomenon. It is in 169 countries, where more than 13 million people have come to explore the meaning of life.Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course includes ten meals and an amazing weekend getaway that comes halfway through the 10-week course. The course meets once per week. At Erskine we host two Alpha courses per year. For further details, go to www.alphacanada.org . The Fall session starts in September at 6:30 pm for supper and an introductory evening.
Alpha in Prison
Every Wednesday evening a team from Erskine conduct an Alpha program in the local Detention Centre where men are introduced to the basics of the Christian faith, receive encouragement, support and guidance for their lives.
Small Study Groups
In conjunction with the Alpha Canada course, Erskine offers small study groups, twice yearly. These groups meet on Tuesday evenings for dinner at 6:30 pm, followed by fellowship and study. A great way to get to know other people!
Child, Youth and Family Ministries
We invite you to check out the following link, to explore different topics and activities (updated weekly), for every age group in your family. Research shows that the #1 factor in creating a faith that sticks, is talking about faith at home. You have a greater chance of your children becoming Christian and remaining practicing Christians into adulthood, if you practice that faith and educate them at home.
We have nursery staff available every week for children up to 3 years old. Programming for this age group includes a short circle time with a song and a reading from a children’s Bible. There are different centres throughout the nursery for creative play.
We currently have two Sunday school groups. They are for ages 3-7 and 8-12. The older group is using Connect curriculum. There is a DVD component which the kids really like. Following the DVD there is discussion, looking up Bible texts and a creative element. Curriculum for the younger group is currently being evaluated. Right now, they are learning the same story as the older group, just taught to their level. They are learning songs, hearing scripture and somehow creating their response to the story, whether through drama, crafts or games.
A new focus in Christian education in the wider church is family ministry. Here at Erskine we have taken that focus and are looking at how to meet the needs of our families in and outside of our congregation.
Music at Erskine
At Erskine we enjoy a blended ministry of music – both traditional and modern. There is something for everyone. Clapping is encouraged! On a regular basis we enjoy hearing our magnificent pipe organ, piano, guitar and mandolin. Have a look at our Music Director’s blog and hear some of our congregation in action.
We have music provided by our Praise Band, once per month playing both traditional and contemporary music.
